Glitch The Cannon Skill Glitch

There is a glitch that has been present in the game for many months now, and needs to be fixed.
It is all to do with the damage calculation you receive from enemy ships when sailing. A fair number of people know about it which is why I am so surprised that no one has made a thread about it.

The problem is simple, the more you upgrade your cannon skills, (on round shot, firebrand etc) the more powerful an enemy ship is with that ammo when shooting you. The damage calculation against you is based on your own skill points, not the NPC's. I can confirm that I take more damage from a navy ferret that shoots round shot (which I have at rank 5) than Tally-ho's firebrand shot (which I have at rank 0)

This is a serious problem because I cannot max out explosive shot as I would like, because I will sink from perhaps 3 explosive shots when I have full health and armour (in my ship with 150% armour). It was happening before, and now I have retrained my skills for explosive to be at rank 1, I have not sunk since.

I have yet to discover if it is the owner of the ship or the person sailing's skill points that effects this, oddly I think it is the ships owner however I think the person sailing is most likely.

I was unaware of this glitch, interesting.
 
Yeah, someone had to tell me about it for me to notice, but once they did it made so much sense as to why the damage was so high from ammo types and so low for others.
Yeah I noticed weird damage consistencies when I upgraded my ship's armour.

From Reinforced 2 to Reinforced 3. About the same time I got a level in explosive, but I didn't realize this. Suddenly Siren's explosive hits are doing about 35% of my armour in one hit, whereas before it was about 25%. So I'm sitting here thinking the armour hulls are broken.

Then someone pointed out this bug to me, and everything made sense.

Edit: Finally reset my cannon skill.

This is exact same way I found out. Reinforcing my ship and things were getting worse, as I was putting skill points to explosive at the same time. Cannoning is so boring at the moment, just using round shot. :(
 
I am not sure about svs, because most peoples skill points are similar making it harder to notice.
