According to Kat here, it was planned weeks in advance. All of these people were guild members I think - a bunch of people revealed themselves on the guild site LOL
As far as GMs go, its either Thomas Darkskull (one of DA's officers and the main organizer of this) or Cougar...

Thomas was the grand designer of this prank. He made the guild with a pirate on his second account. One reason it took so long is all the GUILD NAMES we tried, but were rejected, including John Foulroberts Fans. He changed GM's - I think his wee pirate named Noob was the GM at some point LOL. I made Roxy Foulfish for the guild. There were many people involved - not just guild members - and also some showed up JUST to Watch - which was brilliant. It was great fun.
