Question What all actully affects ship broadsideds ?

So i know certain skills affect broadside dps like barrage, and specing into the ammo type of your customization, rapid reload increases your broadsides recharge rate

but ive read that the actual broadsides upgrades dont increase damage and that its better to spec into ramming speed, tracking, treasure sense, windcatcher and come about

but that thread was from 2011 so i dont know if the information is accurate anymore so what all upgrades actully affect a ships broadsides?

Ahoy @Udoroth,

Broadsides are effected by many skills in different ways, and some are more helpful than others.

As a captain, your broadsides are affected by:
  • Leadership (Black Pearl Quest Skill) | Broadside Reload
  • Taskmaster | Broadside Reload
  • Skill Points put in to your ship's Corresponding Munitions | Broadside Damage
  • Any Cannon Rams with boosts to Corresponding Munitions | Broadside Damage
  • Port/Starboard Broadside Skill Upgrades | Broadside Damage
  • Open Fire Skill | Broadside Damage
As a captain, your broadsides are NOT affected by:
  • Rapid Reload (Cannon Skill)
  • Shrapnel (Cannon Skill)
The Broadside skill does increase damage, albeit very minutely when upgraded.

This is my endgame build for sailing, which includes baseline upgrades for most. Do note that the points put into Treasure Sense can be moved into Taskmaster if preferred.

I hope this helps,

There are a ton of older threads here which should still pertain to what you are seeking because as far as I know the only difference now, really, are broadsides misfiring occasionally onto what would be considered “easy” target shots.

In addition to what @Misha pointed out above, don’t shy away from those much older threads (simply because a lot of ‘skilled’ pirate Captains in the past have gone into some great detail here to share what they personally know [namely @Rannulf and @LEO]).

Oh and, btw, treasure sense is a pretty useless skill even back during the early days of POTCO so...no loss there.
