Question What does following somebody actually do?

Ahoy there!

I'm making this thread after searching for "following" but told it was too general of a word.
What does following someone on the forums actually do?

I've seen it on other Xenforo and non-Xenforo forums, but I don't actually know what it means and I'm sure a lot of others don't either.

Following usually equates to getting updates on the person or something, but I don't get updates about the people I follow unless it's in a watched forum or watched thread (or something to do with me in-general).

So, I'm just wondering what exactly the difference is.

Thanks,
Davy :)

P.S.
If any information or anything like that is incorrect or considered rude. I apologize.
I didn't mean for it to be that way, I was just basically looking for what the function of it is.

If you hover over your name at the top of the forum, you'll see the option of "Your News Feed." Click it (it's this https://piratesforums.co/account/news-feed) and it'll show you a news feed of the people you follow. Alternatively, if you click your own name (in case hovering doesn't trigger the drop-down list), it'll bring you to your main account page (https://piratesforums.co/account/) and you can find "Your News Feed" there as well.

It's a bit more condensed than the "Recent Activity" page option that is available when you're in the Members tab, and it shows you the activity (comments, likes, profile posts, etc) of just the people you're following!

:O :O :O :O

THANKS EMILYYYY!

Also, are you still coming back HTC (Hoist The Colors)?

Your post is pretty funny but the 2nd part isn't true D:
It sort of is true, because once you follow a lot of folk, you'll be disabling those alerts/messages like a free dinner for 2 at Chili's.
So then it becomes just a score card.
But your mileage may vary.

There's also privacy settings regarding following.
You can set your page or certain photo albums to only be seen by people you are following,
you can set your page so only people you follow can post messages to it,
and you can set conversations so only people you follow can send you them.

I didn't even know this either! Thanks, @Punkin Pie! :)
