what to do if people don't talk in guild

i think that everyone is different and have different personalities. Some may be to shy or afraid to speak in front of everyone, especially if they are new. If they are just learning the game, they may need help and are to embarrassed to ask for help in front of there new guild mates. If they are new to the guild they don't know anyone very well and may not trust others yet to come help if they do ask. Or trust that if they ask for help they will not get made fun of by other people in the guild. Or in other cases they may be kids and have rules not to talk to people online unless there parents approve. Then some days maybe they have a lot to say and other days they don't have anything to say.
A good solution is to get to know each individual and learn what there interests are. Do they like to fish, sail, etc. and simply hang out with them and do whatever they are doing. If they want to fish go get a fishing boat and open it to the guild. Play the game with them. If they wont talk over guild chat try whispering to them or crewing them so its just the 2 of you. If they get to know you and you take the time to be friends or help them with there quests, they may become more comfortable talking in guild chat.
i think that when people know each other better and like the guild they are in if someone needs help they are more likely to go help. if they feel confident they will be helped when needed also, that is a good thing also

you could always invite bella to join your guild, she always has something to say, i mean i have even heard, doesnt she ever SHUT UP? OH NO, thats the forum,...just kidding, just kidding,....:D
EDIT (Apr 26, 2011 at 5:17 PM):
what would you do for a person to talks too much and no one else can get a word in? not a proublem in my guild, but have seen other large guild like that. 2 or 3 pirates just take over the chat.

are you talking about me again, Capt, i going to tell Tia on you, she going to turn you into a chicken,....no, not a chicken, a rooster, i like that better,.....:p

I would start off saying, "Hey everyone! How is everybody doing?" Some might respond, some might not. You all correct; maybe some of them are afk, not allowed to talk or are busy doing things that they don't have time/want to talk. So I might ask again,"Is anybody doing anything interesting?" or "I'm sailing right now if anybody would like to come." Or, "Oh, I just got such and such from Tormenta ... or Dark hart ..."

Now it doesn't really bother me a lot of times that ppl don't talk in the guild, as long as they don't do that all the time. I could enjoy my quiet time a lot. But if they stay quiet all the time, and after we try to start conversations several times nobody responds, it's up to you. I haven't left a guild because ppl are quiet, but I might, if I find other guild that is really interesting. So, you'll know when it's time for you to move on.

I've got the most ingenius answer to this question.

Join a new talkative guild.

Apartently that one your in doesn't fill your chatting needs. If they don't chat i doubt they do much. So you should find a new guild that suits you.

:parrot:the guild is talking now.. it is nice to have someone to talk to in the guild i am happy i thank you for all the replys you have helped... thank you everyone.. :parrot:

Sometimes people will join in if you try to start a convo. I guess some people don't like mixing up in the convo. unless someone else starts it...

I encourage officers to ask if anyone needs assistance and also to shout out if someone levels or masters - it can often stir up follow-up chat. A couple of our members love just throwing out random thoughts which gets some talking. Other members are just quiet. They come on, run their quests, level a weapon and may barely say two words.

When I'm on, I do try to whisper a howdy to my officers and any members I haven't seen in a while or don't instantly recognize. And as GM - I do post announcements during the night, about upcoming events, contests or anything happening with the movies and to plug web sites.

NOTE - Don't post web addresses in chat. The mouse does not like that. Instead, spell it out (piratesforum dot com or piratesonline dot com)
