What's with the Axe?!

Tortuga Invasion and the Game Master is wielding an Axe. They didn't respond to questions about it or acknowledge it. Attached is a screenshot.

EDIT: Uploaded the tiny bit of video I caught of it in action, and it looks like it both swings and is thrown (unless they switched to another weapon).

It looks a bit over sized and unbalanced to me but I like the concept.
