Wheel lock for Captains?

When you're out sailing and plundering and all around yo-ho-ho-ing, odds are you're going to end up in a situation where you're circling one or more ships as your crew pounds them with the cannons and you fire your broadsides.

And basically you kind of just have to hold the key down the entire time; and let's be honest some of us wish we could step back to at least use the bathroom or grab a snack if this is going to take awhile. If you're on a crew and you're on cannon, it's not going to hurt if you step back for maybe a minute or two (Unless the ship needs fixing badly and no one else is doing it) but being a captain is a full-time duty

So why not have a way to lock down the wheel if you're steering a ship? It could take the form of a steering wheel above your skill list. If you're holding a key, click it and the wheel locks in position. Now you can release the key and focus on your broadsides, or go take that bathroom break. Click it once more to unlock the wheel if you need to disengage.

Or maybe the game already supports a form of keybinding, and I'm just missing something

I had a similar idea, but only involving the sails, so when a captain lets go of the wheel the sails will be kept open and the ship will continue to be moving forward at full speed.
Idk about locking turning, though. Idk how that would make sense. Do you mean for it to be a new skill to unlock?

That's in line of a BOT !!! lol

I don't think this would count as a bot. If it auto-fired your broadsides and triggered your skills, than yeah that would totally be akin to using a bot.

This would be akin to the auto-run key on land, only it holds your wheel in a certain position. This way you can circle around a ship and focus on either using your broadsides, take a quick bathroom break, or if the game would allow; have you leave the wheel so you can run down and join your crew on the cannons if you're short a cannoner

In World of Warships, the Q and E keys are used for this. One press sets the rudder at half, and another for full. When it's set, a small graphic is displayed, showing what it's been set to. Pressing a third time, or the A/D/left/right keys, disables it.

Could even do 1/4 and 3/4 rudder as well.
