Why I "Leaked" the Old Pirates Online Rewritten Code

January 26th, 2014, I uploaded my first Pirates Online Rewritten video. Not officially a part of the Pirates Online Rewritten "team" at the time, it only took a few days to be welcomed in with open arms by the former project leader, @TheGleamings.

Since then, I have been covering any and all progress, news and other information relating to the game on my YouTube channel, along with personally answering over 2,000 comments regarding to the project. While I have been doing this, i've been an active community member on the project's wiki as well ranking just shy of 2,000 edits, and ranked #3 for 'Achievements'. Also being an 'OP' for the Pirates Online Rewritten IRC channel, I've always stayed in touch with the community. Along with that, all YouTube videos I upload are shared to my Twitter, Google+ and FaceBook pages. I've found that many members wouldn't have discovered the project's existence if it weren't for myself, you could almost say I have been a sort of unofficial 'community developer' for the project.

As time went on, I saw to see both my channel's and Pirates Online Rewritten's support grow. From the project's site creation at http://piratesonlinerewritten.com, to the former another remake forums creation, to the creation of the current site at http://pirates-online-rewritten.com, to the creation of the current forums, i've seen it all. With a still growing active community, my YouTube channel now holds almost 5,000 subscribers, along with the current forums holding just above 2,500 members.

As time went on, there has never been much progress shown (until recently with the project's Character Creation sneak peeks using their new development method / scrapping the old code), many members of our supporting and loving community have began to grow bitter, inpatient and losing hope.

So that brings us back to the thread's title, why did I leak the old Pirates Online Rewritten code?

With the rapid downfall of community support, I knew something had to be done. However, staying loyal to the project as well as the community, I could not do something as giveaway the game for open testing.

So, why'd I do it?

Recently a minor disagreement arose between myself and Mike Wass regarding weather there should be music on the wiki's hope page.

Stating in the page's code,
<!--QUIT ADDING THE MUSIC!-->
<!--It get's WAY too annoying...-->
<!--erm... JDP-->

With all do respect, I replied,
<!--"pause" and "mute" buttons available, not harming anything, only improving the experience for those who slake it's lust. Have a community vote so everyone can have a say if you're so "annoyed". ~JDP-->

This led to Mike demoting of my wiki admin position and saying some hostile things, amongst them including

"You're not a dev. Not a staff member. You do not need admin at all" and "no, you’re not staff. not sure what kind of show Gleamings was running but you haven’t been considered a staff member for quite some time."

(this issue has since been resolved thanks to @TheGleamings)

I have seen much disrespect from the 'team' ever since the change in leadership (not pointing out anyone in particular)

So, i'm no longer apart of the team? Then I suppose I don't have to worry about the possibility of 'betraying' the project.

However, I still wouldn't want to harm the potential game in any way. But wait, Pirates Online Rewritten had completely scraped the code from use. That rules out the possibility of people potentially using the code to 'hack'/alter the game later on.

Keeping the community in mind always, I then took into my own hands to release the 5/23/2014 version of the game myself, knowing that if even if the community could just roam the islands of our once beloved game one more time, it would give the many people hope.

So, how do I avoid being bashed by Pirates Online Rewritten?
I specifically wrote in both the video's description and the "Program Information" file as part of the download that it had been developed by Pirates Online Rewritten and given away unofficially by myself, clearly stating not only do I not have permission but that it by no means reflect the project's current progress.

The reason I create this thread is so people can see my side of the argument and my intentions. My intentions are fully towards the Pirates of the Caribbean Online community, this is why I giveaway the landwalker; I know that if the community misses the game as much as I, this will be much appreciated. I never wanted to offend or harm the project in any way, I hope the best for Pirates Online Rewritten and hope that they will still accept me as a valuable part of their community, but will play the game (if released) and continue to cover all progress and news on my YouTube channel either way.

With the best of intentions,
~JohnnyDaPirate

P.S. I'd appreciate if this thread could be locked by a moderator to avoid drama and bashing.
