With the new update, I have noticed a decrease in lag/fps problems.

For me, it takes longer to load up and more crashing by the original loading screen. But once in game I see an improvement

I noticed lag seemed better at Blanco with multiple crew, but lag was deadening at catacombs. At catacombs the game log started recording lines of something I didn't see (I didn't look at) and my friends game log had lines of text regarding clothing) then I froze, black screened and DC. Staff quest will have to wait.

Did you crash loading into the catacombs or while inside already?

I got into catacombs fine but it was laggy and as soon as I got to the mobs that I needed is of course when I crashed, lol.

Oh hmm, wish I knew how to fix that. I guess try tweaking settings or just trying again. Just wanted to ask because I know a way to get around crashing while loading into the Catacombs as I had that same problem during my staff quest. Anyway, best of luck to you in getting your staff quest completed, Padres is one heck of a place for quests with how buggy it is.

The catacombs and kingshead are a disaster, because you are usually fighting more enemies at once

Yes, I too have noticed a mild improvement in the lag, but I am still unable to engage 3 or more enemies without the entire game freezing me into poor health... because what I have noticed is the pirate freezes during lag, and the enemy rages on and on, LOL!
Savor it!

One thing I wonder about is that some pirates, while still experience animation-associated lag, experience much less than I do. I have a pretty good gaming comp (though not brand new) and am hardwired into my really good internet. I know I saw somewhere on the forums a discussion on hardware that tlopo "likes" or "dislikes but for the life of me I can't find it. If anyone has advice on how I might improve this (beyond tweaking settings to reduce crashes - done that and my crashes are rare) or links to threads with any pertinent info, I would love you forever!

Haven't seen any improvement in the lag, it's gotten worse for me. Loading takes up to ten minutes.
I am sorry to report that lag is so much worse for me. I am also having so many crashes. I've have done all the things suggested with change in options to low graphics, deleting cache, no music, etc., but almost unplayable some times :(

You probably have, but have you turned fancy loading screens on? I saw suggestions to turn it off and it made it way worse, putting them back on helped a lot. Also sky dome off and rain off (that last one I hadn't seen anywhere). It took me trying a few different combinations before I got it to a point that worked for me. Another thing that helped a lot was getting off wifi and hardwiring to my router.
If this post is totally useless I'm sorry :(

I hope it gets better for you soon!

Thank you Melly. Your post is very helpful. I accept any advice gratefully. I was on for a bit this evening and it was a lot better. Good and bad days. I'll take what ever I can. Love the game. :)
