What in the heck is GOOFY?

Life is full of mysteries, me hearties...&...ye never know what you are going to get (using me best 'Forrest Gump' voice). :rolleyes:

For reasons I have yet to understand, today I have taken a slight initiative to compile a list of those things upon this Earth (whether living or natural phenomenon) to which there is no particular explanation for within the intellectual & scientific communities. Below are just a few things that I have come up with:
  • Stonehenge
  • Bigfoot
  • The Lochness Monster
  • UFO's
  • The Bermuda Triangle
  • Chupacabra
  • The Jersey Devil
  • The food - SPAM
  • Crop Circles
  • Cream filling inside the Twinkie snack!
Now, an intelligent pirate :xbones: would be able to look at this list & logically conclude a series of explanations as to how each of these things exist, & therefore remain believeable. But...what about GOOFY???

You know, I do admit. GOOFY does has big, droopy ears like a basset hound & a dog-like snout but what about the rest of him? It's mind boggling & the more you think about him, the more questions which arise as opposed to answers being made.


What remains your opinion on this "perplexing" matter, lol? (Please share your answers within the above poll). *Anyway...your guess, is as good as mine! :rolleyes:

There is alot of irony in this question...
and I just happen to know the answer

Goofy was not really a dog

In the "Silly Symphony" cartoons
Goofy got his actual start as a cow
with Clarabell by his side ...

so why did they change him?
To distinquish the character...

His first real appearance was
in a short in 1931 as a kind of
"Heckler" in the crowd...

his appearance much different
than today -- and his name was
not Goofy but "Dippy Dawg"

His characteristics are known as
anthropomorphism- which is
giving human attributes to animals

Goofy got cameos as Dippy in many
other shorts to the point that he
eventually became part of the "gang"
and his "character" was refined from being
the "goof" to "Goofy"


Pluto on the other hand was drawn
by another animater altogether and
got his start as a "pup"...
His character was started as a dog
and remained as a dog

He would get his start independently
from the other characters
and starred in many of his own shorts
through the 30's and 40's
as a dog and getting into situations
that dogs would ...
It was never considered changing him
or making him more human
although he at times acts human


It was only later that he would be
featured as a part of the rest of the
gang as Mickey's pet -- although
ownership was never set

Pluto did indeed get his name from
the planet
{which had just been discovered
at that time}
