Character progress not getting saved?

i was playing on saturday i believe and the game froze and when i logged back in the character i was playing on got reset completely, everything in the inventory was gone ship was gone, everything. is this common or just a rare thing to happen?

There's an issue that prevents the servers from getting back to you. A fix is in the works. Feel free to re-log back to the game as it will refresh your communication with the servers and you should be able to get your items back!

When you log back in and it says you are level 1, with no items, just relog and it should fix right away.
