Game freezing at first loading screen after selecting preferred server

My friend and I are both having trouble loading in after playing all morning. when we try to create new pirates to see if that helps, our games both crash.
 
Stuck at 79% on Padres :c
Was working perfectly fine this morning none of my settings were changed and my connection is fine :/
 
My friend is having the same problem. However my game works fine, hopefully the "emergency maintenance" will fix it.
