Hey, Old POTCO player here, no idea whats going on

I joined POTCO in 2008 and stopped playing in 2012, forgot about it for a while, and now I just discovered that it's been scrapped a while ago by Disney (For Club Penguin? Seriously?). Found out out about this Legend of Pirates Online and it looks almost too good to be true. Whats with this alpha key stuff and where can I find them? Also is it like an exact potco clone? Did Disney release the source code or something?
