Question How does Take Cover work?

Simply put, when you use take cover it helps reduce the amount of damage your ship takes for a short period of time.
Best used when you are making a manoeuvre that puts your ship in danger of taking on damage.
 
When sailing, where it's pretty clear yer gonna get creamed (that's an ancient expression for getting the tar kicked outta ya <- another ancient phrase...) you can use the "take cover" feature and drastically reduce any damage you might otherwise have received.
Please note that when a Corsair is about to blast you, "take cover", saying a hail Mary or standing on yer head aint gonna help you so much...
