Chapter 1, new (old) island

NEW (old) ISLAND

This thread inspired me to come up with this large idea/story.

All thoughts and ideas regarding this would be appreciated.
I sincerely apologize for the great walls of text you are about to encounter.

The island redesigns were explained through multiple blog-posts as seen in the wiki. However, since there are no direct references in the game (I assume) to what was said - a reimagined backstory can potentially be the first step to bringing one of our favorite islands back to 'life' (kind of).

It wouldn't make perfect sense to downgrade to the old islands, as the main reason was to reduce resource consumption so reintroducing one of the nostalgia-inducing islands as a deeply scarred version would be a fresh alternative.

It would look and feel slightly different, based on the new lore. The islands would require a slight overhaul as it would be a torn-down, undead-infested version of the original one. The island I am referring to is Port Royal.

A story told through procedural updates
The idea is simple - however, its execution is far from that. There could be a new storyline related to Port Royals overhaul. There could be multiple chapters to the story, however the release of the updates could be procedural (yearly or biyearly, even), meaning the updates will go chapter by chapter to allow for larger and more meaningful additions to the game. Each chapter acts as the lore for the coming update. New variants of the old islands as well as new characters, enemies, customization, quests, weapons and more could be included within each update.

Timeline
The following timeline of events was assembled through the collection of highly-guarded Navy documents, a plethora of first-hand accounts as well as a compilation of a fair amount of Tortugan bard-tales.

CHAPTER I - The downfall of Port Royal
The following events unfolded approximately 8 years ago.
The Port Royal sabotage led by the undead leader, Jolly Roger, was made possible by the traitorous Captain Ezekiel Rott and his crew. The Port Royal invasion was the first of its kind.

Jolly Roger hatched a plan to form an Invasion of the capital island, but he could not assail it due to amulets of protection, buried by voodoo practitioners. These amulets keep Jolly at bay. But he sought help in the form of Captain Ezekiel Rott, a captain who, along with his crew, would surely have been doomed. Rott was told to hire pirates to dig up the amulets and sabotage the Royal Navy forces - leaving the island vulnerable.

Thundering claps were heard through the entirety of Port Royal as Jolly Roger's ruthless fleet unloaded charged cannonballs onto the towering walls of Fort Charles. Within minutes, the Navy's wall-mounted cannons, weapon depositories and barracks were completely annihilated. The undead army prepared to set foot on-land to destroy the crippled Navy forces.

A swift Navy-led evacuation allowed the majority of the inhabitants to escape the incoming threat. The inhabitants (nobles, merchants and a handful of townfolk) were kept hidden in Governor's Gardens rundown shed and were instructed to immediately head to the Royal Caverns where a trained Navy group would protect and escort them.

The group was escorted through the caverns, followed by Wicked Thicket's dangerous woods until they finally reached the docks out in front. The ones who remained on the island (primarily Navy foot soldiers, poor townfolk and unsung heroes) could only wait for their impending doom.

The undead landed on the blood-soaked shores while the evacuees rapidly boarded Navy and Pirate ships (who set aside their differences for the day). In the coming hours, once they were clear of all threats - the search for a safe-haven began.

Upon arriving to the densely vegetated land, the Navy erected multiple encampments, extinguished the animal presence and captured multiple forms of wildlife. The Officers resided in the Navy warships quarters as they laid down a strategic redesign of Port Royal using advanced concepts and materials. The redesign rectified their previous weaknesses and helped ensure their survival in future invasions.

Solely using their fondest memories alongside a few rough sketches, the citizens were able to replicate their homes, shops and stands to the best of their abilities. Within the coming months, the island aesthetically felt the same with the advantage of increased security.

A year passed. A band of Port-Royal-bred pirates who weren't pleased with their current stronghold decided to sail to the exact coordinates of their original homeland. After a long and perilous journey, they discovered that it had been reduced to a pile of rubble surrounded by a thick, dark and cloudy mist hovering over its surface.

Familiar cries and wails resonated through the air; the majority of the fleet decided to turn back, except for one ship. One pirate had the courage to row to land and explore the remains of a scarred Port Royal.

As she neared her home-isles dark ferrous shores, the beauty of the sea observed a land infested with silhouettes resembling skeletal figures. "Had the remaining townsfolk been hanged and left to rot?", she asked herself.

Her rowboat approached the land and the mist gradually rolled away - her ship and crew were nowhere to be seen. The lifeless, inanimate figures suddenly rotated their heads in perfect synchronization and stared at the foreign being. A loud scream was heard by the crewmates aboard the ship.

Minutes later, the rowboat was seen travelling back towards the ship. The Captain immediately grabbed the spyglass from the First Mate to observe the rowboat; as he focused, the details grew clearer and clearer.

Mary looked lifeless, her hair turned grey and her lips blue. The beauty of the sea was no more. Scary Mary was born.

Wow this is a very long and detailed story, but the forums has a 10k character limit, so if you wish to continue the story you could contact a staff member to see if they can release the limit.

Nice story :) I doubt the devs are gonna go back though, Honestly the majority of the games life was set to the new island layouts, If I remember correctly it wasnt but just a couple years after disney originally released pirates that they updated the islands and in reality.. yeah I loved the game back then as I did after the new island layouts and as I do now but the old islands were boring.
