Disable laggy special effects?

Can we have an option to disable laggy special effects? I can only do like the first combo because the sword when you hit something it makes an "explosion" which lags badly which is the only reason why the game lags so bad. Also the damage numbers lag out and grenades are laggy, but ships are fine if I can dock. It would greatly increase performance if you could have an option to disable these becuse then you wouldn't have to worry about dieing from laggy combat. Turning them down to low still lags the game badly.
 
The lag is usually due to a bug with animations that's been going on. The game without explosions would look really ugly IMO, and animations are causing the lag in combat, not explosions :D
