Ship Materials Question - How do I get iron, I play solo only!

You get iron from regular hunter.

If you are committed to only sailing solo then your best bet is to go on the busiest server and look for a crowd of ships that often forms somewhere around the south end of Padres. It's sometimes farther north and sometimes not there at all but if you hang near another player ship or two in that area you can often get it to form. Otherwise you will need to crew or take on crew to get much as killing hunters solo is slow going.

Iron is easy. Steel, on the other hand, is hard to get.
You can get a bit of iron from just about any ship at any time. The hunters are well known to give larger amounts however.
Navy, eitc, even dead ghost ships but just not as much as hunters as often. I get good amounts from dreadnoughts and those types as well.
Don't believe you can get any iron fishing. Vote for trading, so you can buy iron instead of spending months getting 15 a week in normal sailing.
