Glitch Glitch? Devil's Anvil- Barbossa

Hi guys,

So, I've been trying to get through the story quest with Barbossa on Devil's Anvil, but EVERY time I go to talk to him, he hands me the gun and then my game closes out. It's done it every time I've tried. I've tried different settings on my computer, I've tried rebooting my computer and it won't do anything different. What's happening and how do I fix it?

Actually just found something saying to buy a gun at the gunsmiths - flintlock pistol - and take it with you - says it is a work around not sure but give it a go
