So seeing that my PC can run most games at a steady 30-60 fps, and struggles to run TLOPO at that, I thought I would make a tutorial that really helped my performance with the game to make it as enjoyable as possible!

Power Options:

Step 1: Open Your Control Panel
MzTcbAm.png

Step 2: Search for power options, and select change power/battery settings (This is from my laptop)
0BNjuac.png

Step 3: Select High Performance (if you can't see it, click the arrow on show additional plans)
TZTdWMo.png

Windows Performance Settings:

Step 1: Open the start menu, right click on computer, and go to properties (If you have a different version of windows, just search for advanced system settings)

Step 2: Select Advanced System Settings

Step 3: Select the advanced tab, and go to performance settings
NwvS8kR.png

Step 4: Select the adjust for best performance (your windows will look ugly, but it will improve fps)
MlXg77D.png

Step 5: Go to the advanced tab, and adjust performance for programs, then click the change button
QCGqpR6.png

Step 6:
Uncheck the automatically manage paging file size for all drives
Select custom size, and set it to the recommended amount. Click set, and ok
B7GwCIs.png

Step 7: Click apply, and restart your computer.

Startup Programs:

Step 1: Open the start menu, and search for msconfig.exe (you can also press the window+r key together and type it through there)
F3wt1IC.png

Step 2: Go to the boot tab, and select advanced options
PsxWhRS.png

Step 3: Set the number of processors and maximum memory to their highest values, and click ok
rTstIzY.png

Step 4: Go to the services tab, check hide all microsoft services, then uncheck whatever you don't need starting up with your computer
mBLxsnf.png

Step 5: Go to the startup tab, and do the same thing

Update GPU Drivers:

Step 1: Open the control panel
dIVnvCJ.png

Step 2: Search for device manager, and open it
7Xjlyf4.png

Step 3: Find Display Adapters and open the box
nirV3gx.png

Step 4:
Find the latest drivers by googling your GPU's
Look only for official pages (geforce.com, intel.com, amd.com)

I'm not a native speaker, but I'll do my best.

So thanks for sharing your experience! I'm not very good at this, but am I right that this will reduce the crashing?
Do you know if I can do something like that on mac too?

It may actually help reduce crashing if the game runs smooter, check out the thread at the bottom for a possible crash fix. I have never used mac in my life but I'm sure there's something that could help

Thank you for this!!! I can actually play with very minimal crashes!!!

LOL, I actually have to slow down my system performance to play the game. Otherwise all madness breaks loose.
On a separate note, if you're using windows 10 you might want to take a look at the winaero tweaker module over at winaero.
I've heard it does amazing things for most older systems upgraded to the new OS.

How often do you typically crash, and does it depend on what you do? Like, can you visit 2 or more islands without crashing?

Thank you for taking the time to make this for us, improved performance for me on my very old computer to increase my frame rate on TLOPO

I mustvd have unchecked something important cause now my computer startup is really slow lol
